Security warning when typing "www" before your TaxDome URL

If you see a security warning "Your connection is not private" (Google Chrome, Edge), "Potential security issues" (Firefox), or "Can't find the server" (Safari) from your browser when accessing TaxDome, it’s false. Your data with TaxDome is safe and protected by bank-level security. This false error occurred if you manually typed the client portal address in your browser and added the www prefix before the company domain.

We use security (SSL) certificates for all company domains to protect your data. So, if you try to open the client portal without www (e.g., "firmname.taxdome.com", where instead of "firm name"there's your company's domain), you will see the client portal.

This false error occurs because security certificates can not work when users access websites with www due to technical limitations. This issue is not TaxDome specific. When trying to access other sites with www, you’ll get a similar error:

In general, using  www in your URLs is deprecated. Technically, www is a subdomain that was once used to indicate that a site is part of the web (e.g., not FTP, telnet, or email). Today, you can safely omit www. All sites work just fine without it. Moreover, some won’t work with www: try opening http://www.finance.google.com/ or https://www.m.facebook.com/
